Tribeca Rock Club: The Final Days

Tribeca Rock Club closed it's doors in early December.

One of the highlights of going to a show here was being greeted by the angel in a fur-hooded parka, Eddie Eyeball, a true legend in his own time.

The View from the Coat Check Room
The coat check girl looks bored!

A music-goer collects his belongings.

"Give me my coat."

"Hello, lady."

Show's ever. Time to head back into the cold!

And from Tribeca's final night...

The band joins the crowd for a rousing celebration of rock n' roll!

Projectile Sweater

Yo La Tengo
December 27, 2005
Maxwell's
Hoboken, NJ

My third night in a row of Yo La Tengo. Each one just gets better and better! Jesse has the setlist here.

It seems noteworthy to document that in order to get to Hoboken you need to take the PATH, a unique experience in its own right.

Tonight, the awesome band Tortoise opened. Seeing this brute force-soaked performance of tattoo-covered percussive energy in such a small room and from right up front was...galvanizing to say the least.

Tortoise manipulated their instruments in an almost combative fashion, and yet in the service of making music that was as intricate and meticulous as any other rock n roll ever made.

Members of Tortoise also sat in during much of Yo La Tengo's set adding a new level of intensity previously not thought possible.

Hannukah: Night 1

Yo La Tengo
December 25, 2005
Maxwell's
Hoboken, NJ

Yo La Tengo is my favorite band. They played all 8 nights of Hannukah at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ. Jesse has the setlist for night 1. The show was quite beautiful.

James, the bass player, dressed up as a Hasid.
Georgia, the drummer, was Robin. And Ira (unpictured)was Santa in Chuck Taylors.

James' payess look nice and curly in this shot.

Lake Trout

November 9, 2005
Mercury Lounge
NYC

Lake Trout is this band I and a bunch of people I know really like. We go see them whenever they play in New York City. Tom C. was there at this show, taping the show as he is wont to do. What a great guy!

Here's Lake Trout playing live on stage at the Mercury Lounge on Houston St.!

They sounded great!

Then the smoke machine set a fire alarm off and everyone had to evacuate the club. Here's everyone standing on Houston street as fire trucks arrived on the scene.

In no time at all the club was deemed fire-free and the show continued. The crowd had a great time.
